United Nations Human Rights Committee
On September 11th 2001, the whole of America was shaken. The 9/11 attacks had paralysed the nation. In the face of the chaos, the government needed to take action. Then American President George W Bush launched The War on Terror. Part of this aggressive military campaign was the Guantanamo Bay Detention Centre. In the next 20 years, this isolated jail has become known for its arbitrary confinement and indefinite imprisonment without trial, which goes against the famed American principles of freedom and liberty. Despite the significant reduction in number of prisoners, should it continue to exist beyond the reach of all international law? Join the UNHRC and you get to decide.
