Space, the final frontier, is no longer just a symbol of human curiosity and peaceful exploration, it’s now the next warzone. Sophisticated satellite networks now conduct mass surveillance, guide precision weapons and intercept communications from orbit, while anti-satellite missiles and jamming technology quietly fuel an arms race nobody is officially acknowledging. COPUOS must confront this growing militarisation head on, and build frameworks that regulate satellite warfare by closing critical legal gaps, and protect space as a shared global commons before it’s too late. As the entire modern world depends on it, a single conflict in space could cripple GPS, internet, financial systems, yet the 1967 Outer Space treaty leaves gaping legal loopholes that were never designed for this reality.
