The classroom has always been a safe haven - from discovery, to learning but with the introduction and intervention of artificial intelligence has made it difficult for the education systems to keep up with the new rules. From AI generated essays undermining academic integrity to algorithms quietly changing everyone’s opinions, beliefs and individuality. The way AI has transformed what and how students learn, the implications of this technology for global education are profound and deeply unequal. While privileged students leverage AI as a powerful learning tool, millions across the developing world lack basic access, infrastructure or guidance, threatening to widen an already devastating equity gap. Meanwhile, teachers find their professional autonomy increasingly challenged as they scramble to respond with bans, policies, and frameworks, however students always find a way around it. Delegates of UNESCO will craft international guidelines that harness AI’s transformative potential while safeguarding academic integrity, protecting pedagogical freedom, and allowing every student regardless of barriers to have an equal chance at education.
